Beautiful day today.....sun shining through the windows....spring is in the air and very little snow left now.  I've been doing a few different things here recently and getting ready to return for week long class in Washington.  Finishing a large bed quilt for a friend (here is a picture of the backing...the fabrics are tropical and beautiful!) and doing some hand work for a wall hanging.....

I just finished a small project....the felted portion is 4.5 " x 7 ".  I hand dyed both the felt and the threads...then did some beaded embroidery.  Glued the felt to a canvas that I painted.  Cerulean blue and red.  Very pretty colors.  These forms remind me of cells.  The beaded "flowers" within the cells are french roses.  This piece is a small gift to one of my dearest friends who, last year, survived both breast and uterine cancer.  I entitled this little piece "Healing Morphosis."

Beautiful day today!  Gorgeous sunrise.  Yesterday I worked on a new technique.  Free hand embroidery in the hoop.  I want to do trees, foliage, and flowers....I'm reading a book by Alison Holt and I absolutely love her work!  So much texture with dense stitching.  Here is my first attempt at following some of her directions.  This looks more like a cactus with branches!  Not exactly what I had in mind, but nevertheless, I enjoyed the process of doing something different....I want to get a lace effect of the leaves...

And one last thing to post before I turn the computer off....here is a piece of machine free motion stitching that I did for my machine stitching class last September.....I did the stitching on some of my hand painted muslin...

OK....time warp!  Yes, I have been the most neglectful blogger that ever was!  It's not that I haven't been busy making things or that I don't care....its just been a busy time!  I have made many things, mainly for family.  I've learned quite a few new techniques, and started taking courses at the Gail Harker Creative Arts Center in LaConner, Washington.  A wonderful place to learn.  I vow to be better at blogging from here on out!  Here is a peek of a recent, delicate piece of wet felting that I did.  I placed silk hankies within my layout.....very pretty fibers, some of which came from sheep here at Calypso Farms.  How sweet!

Had a great retreat with our Threads in Motion group in March.....then made some Easter boxes earlier this month and a few small wall hangings.  Now onto finishing a wall hanging that I will submit for Quilt Alaska showing at the Bear Gallery this summer.  The days are brighter, the sun is warming and I wish I could move my sewing gear outside onto our deck!  The lighting couldn't be better!

One last picture of the Heron Moon....I finished him and basically, I'm posting this to see if the binding shows up on the blog page. He looks good and is up on the wall now! I used a black and white binding because I didn't want the binding to take away from the overall piece. Going on a Threads in Motion retreat next week....must figure out what projects I will take! Always look forward to this!
